I always aim to get nice, relaxed, candid shots of couples.

Perfect Day for a Wedding Photographer at Cornhill House Hotel, Biggar

As a wedding photographer, I have never had so many outside weddings as I’ve had this summer. It was yet another lovely day for Mia and Greg’s wedding photographs at Biggar’s Cornhill House Hotel in South Lanarkshire.

It was a very intimate wedding with a few guests so there was plenty of time to take a variety of wedding photographs in the gardens. Having grown up in South Lanarkshire, I know Cornhill House Hotel very well, from the days when it was previously a care home. In my early days as a photographer, I photographed it for a council project documenting all the listing buildings in Biggar and South Lanarkshire. Thankfully, it’s been restored since then and is being put to good use as a wedding venue.

Before the ceremony, I like to get candid shots of the groom and guests.

As a wedding photographer, it’s ideal for wedding photographs, especially the extensive gardens. There’s lovely view of Tinto Hill from the back plus, lawns, trees and a fountain. One especially nice feature is the pagoda at the back where they hold the outdoor wedding ceremonies. It’s very intimate, relaxed and again has those lovely views looking out onto Tinto.

Mia and Greg were very keen to get some shots of their two sons, so I spent a little bit of time with them prior to the wedding ceremony to get some nice shots. For the ceremony, I always like to do this candidly. It’s such an important time of the day, so I don’t want to distract the couple or annoy the guests. I’m therefore very much a fly on the wall and photograph it all as it happens. This also makes for some lovely natural, relaxed wedding photographs.

Even when posing couples for photographs, I like to keep things relaxed.

Afterwards, I did a few group shots as well as some more posed ones of Greg and Mia. Even with posed shots, I always like to make them relaxed and natural and make sure the couple are enjoying having their wedding photographs taken.
