As an Ayrshire wedding photographer, it’s always nice to be able to pop over the water to the Isle of Arran to photograph a wedding. It’s only 50 minutes by ferry but once you are over there it’s like another world. In fact we had our own family holiday there recently.
The groom, Adam grew up in Whiting Bay on the Isle of Arran which is why he and Judith wanted to get married there. Due to the logistics of the ferries, I took the ferry the night before the wedding to make sure I was sales there in time and also stayed the night of the wedding so I wouldn’t have to rush back for a set time.
This gave me a little extra time to recce a few locations and have an easier start to the day. This is a bit of a ritual of mine when I’m photographing a wedding.
As my style is for relaxed, natural wedding photography which captures the mood and atmosphere of the day, I like to be fairly relaxed myself, so I can concentrate and get into the mood of the day without too many distractions.
Fortunately, I know a fantastic cafe at Lamlash pier so this was an ideal place for a coffee and cake before I started photographing the Arran wedding!
The day started off with shots of Adam getting ready ay his parents farm and Judith getting ready at Arran Lodge. For this part of the day I was very much a fly on the wall just taking candid shots. I generally like to blend in just popping in and out of rooms so people don’t feel they in a reality TV show with a camera there al the time. The service was at Whiting Bay Parish Church.
The minister had requested not to have many shots taken during the service but there was plenty of opportunity afterwards as friends of Judith and Adam who couldn’t attend the wedding due to Covid restrictions had gathered outside on the village green with cans of beer feely flowing from the back of a van.
The church was also quite close to the beach which was a great opportunity to get some shots of Judith and Adam together. As we were walking back I noticed some lovely soft light falling on Judith when she was coming up from the beach. I love spontaneous moments like this, so I took some shots of her as she walked along.
Judith and Adam wanted most of their Arran wedding to be covered naturally but there was time for a few informal family shots at Arran Lodge before the meal.
