I photographed a lovely wedding at the Brig o’ Doon House Hotel in Alloway last month. Although I’ve been there many times before, every wedding is unique and each couple puts a lot of effort into making their day extra special, which is why Christine and David asked myself and my assistant to capture their special day when they were looking for wedding photographers in Ayrshire.
One special request they had was for some sparkler shots which are always fun to do. These have to be shot at dusk when it is dark enough for the sparklers to show up in the photograph but also light enough so you can still see the location. There’s a lovely tree at the Brig o’ Doon called the ‘Kissing Tree’ which made for a perfect backdrop for the shot. It was a bit too dark with just the sparklers so we added some additional lights for dramatic effect. After that it was just down to a little rehearsal so Christine and David could draw a love heart with the sparklers.
It was the perfect end to the day which started with us getting photographs of Christine and her bridesmaids getting ready. I’d done a recce of the house about a month earlier and knew where I wanted to take the shots but I always keep my eye out for other opportunities which always turn up. I had just finished taking some shots of Christine in the garden when I turned round to see that one of her bridesmaids was holding up a mirror so she could see herself. I quickly asked all the other bridesmaids to crouch round and there was a lovely fun shot which will look great in the album.
I always feel it is important to plan some of the wedding photography but I also love candid shots which I take throughout the day. The wedding reception at the Brig O’ Doon was perfect for these, especially the first dance, when Christine and David were showered by confetti. It’s one of my favourite shots of the day as it was so spontaneous.
If you’re thinking of getting married at the Brig O’ Doon Hotel or any other venue then I’m always happy to meet up with no obligation to book. Why not call me or email for a chat.
