As a wedding photographer I’ve photographed weddings all over the country from Ayrshire, Glasgow, Lanarkshire to Edinburgh, the Lothians, the Borders and Fife.
In my previous blogs I’ve talked a lot about the importance of capturing unique moments which is very important to me in creating natural, relaxed wedding photographs.
There is however, another crucial element which is equally important as a wedding photographer which is capturing the light.
The wonderful thing about natural light is that it’s always changing. To some this might be frustrating but it also offers many possibilities. The other special quality it provides is that it makes each moment unique as the light is very rarely the same from one day or even one minute to the next.
As a wedding photographer, this means I am constantly on the look out for possibilities. Even though I always do a thorough recce of a location beforehand, this only prepares you for so much. You have to be able to respond to what’s happening on the day.
That’s when years of experience come into play, as you instinctively know where to place yourself in order to get the right shot. You also know what needs to be done technically.
The changing seasons also offer lots of different possibilities. The autumn and winter months often make for more atmospheric or dramatic light, whereas the spring and summer allow for warmer highlights in the evenings and more possibilities for soft reflected light. It’s the challenge of working with all these different elements which makes capturing someone’s special day so rewarding.
