Photographing Guests at Your Wedding

I always look out for moments like these where the bridesmaids are enjoying a sing along at the Wedding Reception.

One thing that’s often missing from a wedding photographer’s portfolio, either on their website, or in other marketing materials are the wedding guests.

You generally see lots of images of couples at different venues enjoying summer weddings or winter weddings but there is so much more to a wedding day than the bride and groom, important as they are.

Even with larger groups I like to keep the shots informal and relaxed.

When photographing a wedding, I believe that the photography should be a record of your special day for you to cherish and look back on in years to come. Your guests are a very important part of your wedding day.

As well as helping create the atmosphere of the day by witnessing the ceremony, it’s a great opportunity to catch up with friends and relatives you might not have seen for a while, so I’m always on the lookout for special moments when you or your guests will be enjoying yourselves. I cover most of the day naturally, as it unfolds, so there are plenty of occasions during the day when I can do this such as people mingling before the ceremony, having drinks afterwards or enjoying the evening reception.

Children always make great subjects at weddings.

Couples often request some group shots which can be nice to have, although I always like to keep these to a minimum, otherwise you can end up with a production line which is very formal and takes up a lot of time.

Instead, I like to approach photographing groups of people in a similar way to how I photograph couples, which is to set up an informal space and then encourage people to be themselves.

I always like to make group shots fun rather than staged.

If you are looking for a wedding photographer in Ayrshire, Glasgow or elsewhere in Scotland to capture your special day in a relaxed, natural way, then please drop me an email or call me on 01292 859 001 for a chat.

A shot of you with all your guests is always a fun shot to get.
