'I cannot recommend Richard enough!'

Prestonfield House Wedding

Amy and Daniel

Beautifully Low-Key Wedding Photography at Prestonfield House

Some weddings stay with you long after the day itself, not because they were grand or elaborate but because they were simple, heartfelt and genuine. Amy and Daniel’s celebration was exactly that, a relaxed, intimate day filled with warmth, emotion and the joy of being surrounded by the people who mattered most. As an Edinburgh wedding photographer, it was a privilege to document their story, which began in the Borders town of Peebles and ended at Edinburgh’s Prestonfield House Hotel.

‘If you need a photographer who makes you feel comfortable in front of the camera (or not even notice it’s there), Richard is the one for you. I cannot recommend Richard enough! He was amazing from the first consultation call before the wedding all the way through to delivery of the stunning photos he captured on our day. Thank you so much for our beautiful photos.’

Day Out in Peebles

Amy and Daniel wanted a low-key wedding with only immediate family and a handful of guests. They chose to get married at Peebles registry office as they had fond memories of day’s out there. From my perspective , it turned out to be one of the nicest registry office settings I’ve photographed. The ceremony room, with its rich wooden paneling created a great ambiance. Outside, the courtyard provided a lovely open space for guests to gather and enjoy the fresh air while I took some candid shots.

After the ceremony everyone made their way back to Edinburgh and the stunning Prestonfield House. Known for its architecture, luxurious interiors and peaceful grounds, Prestonfield House is a great location for wedding photography. However, Amy and Daniel’s schedule for the day was tight and I knew from our pre-wedding meeting that we wouldn’t have a lot of time for portraits on the day itself after the drive from Peebles which took about an hour.

Pre-Planning

That’s why, a couple of months earlier, I decided to make a separate visit to Prestonfield House to explore the gardens and note all the best spots for photographs. This meant that when Amy and Daniel arrived at Prestonfield after the drive from Peebles, we were able to make the most of every minute. I guided them quickly and smoothly through a few key locations, giving them space to enjoy the moment together while I photographed them.

We had just about ten minutes before the rain made its appearance but it was all that we needed. Those brief moments gave us a beautiful collection of photos that really captured Amy and Daniel’s special day. Preparation makes all the difference and in this case, it ensured their Prestonfield House wedding photography felt complete despite the limited time.

Period Charm

Once indoors, Amy and Daniel joined their guests for a meal in one of Prestonfield’s atmospheric rooms. The venue’s period charm created a cosy, elegant setting that perfectly suited their intimate celebration.  As an Edinburgh wedding photographer , moments like these are great to capture. Seeing families gathered together, sharing stories, laughter and a few happy tears, is always a reminder of what weddings are really about.

Amy and Daniel’s day was proof that a wedding doesn’t need to be large or elaborate to be special. Their approach was simple: choose places that matter, include the people you love and keep the focus on what the day is all about. And from Peebles to Edinburgh, everything came together beautifully.

If you’re considering an intimate celebration and are drawn to elegant spaces with character, Prestonfield House wedding photography offers endless possibilities. And as an Edinburgh wedding photographer, I’m always honoured to help couples capture their story in a way that feels personal,  authentic and timeless.

Amy and Daniel opted for a half day digital package which covers from just before the ceremony to the speeches before the meal. Although this isn’t part of my usual packages, I can offer this on special request or if booking less than 6 months in advance. Please see below a selection of Amy and Daniel’s photos.

To make this easier to view I’ve edited this down to just over 100 images from 300.
