With just the two of them, the registrar, her assistant, and myself, their day unfolded quietly and beautifully on the banks of Loch Long, proof that the simplest celebrations can be the most meaningful.
Wow Richard, these are so lovely! Thank you!
Zoe and Darren – Scottish Highland Elopement
Zoe and Darren had chosen a charming Air B&B just outside Arrochar, as both their ceremony backdrop and their first-night hideaway. The location, with the dramatic Scottish Highlands rising around us was a perfect canvas for a Scottish elopement photographer. Even when the weather threatened to complicate things, it only added to the drama and the romance.
Rare Moment
One of the moments I will always remember happened just as the ceremony ended. A single shaft of sunlight broke through the clouds and illuminated the exact spot where Zoe and Darren stood, almost as if on cue! In Scottish elopement photography, these natural, fleeting moments are the ones I dream of capturing. Yet, with the dark skies closing in, I could tell rain wasn’t far away.
Quick Dash
We made a quick dash to the nearby beach and I managed to capture some beautiful atmospheric shots of the two of them standing together by the loch. Moments later, the rain swept in, so we retreated to their Air B&B to wait out the shower. As a Scottish Highland elopement photographer, I know the importance of checking locations in advance, so I knew exactly where I had to go when the weather cleared.
When the rain passed, we ventured out again for more portraits. I took them to an old stone bridge I’d found earlier with a great view of the mountains rising behind it. It was a great backdrop with Zoe and Darren standing next to the bridge with the river beside them.
Priviledge
Being asked to act as both their photographer and witness was a great priviledge. It reminded me how personal and special these days are. Zoe and Darren’s elopement was a perfect example of why I love Scottish elopement photography. I always look for emotion, real moments and the raw beauty of the Highlands coming together in a way that creates beautiful, romantic images.
Fo Zoe and Darren’s elopement I put together a special package for about 2 hours photography. Although this isn’t part of my usual wedding packages I can do this on request or if your elopement is less than 6 months away. Please see below a selection of photos from Zoe and Darren’s elopement. To make these easier to view I’ve edited these down to about 50 from 100.
